FIP is the all-day default. French public, no ads, a genuinely broad selection that runs jazz, soul, world, instrumental hip hop and contemporary classical without flinching. On a Sunday morning it leans into the slower end of all of those.

ABC Jazz opens the day with mid-century cool jazz, bossa nova and Latin flavoured small group sessions. The kind of music that sounds correct over coffee and the paper.

If you prefer instrumental classical, Linn Classical is the obvious choice: chamber and small orchestral works, beautifully recorded, no presenter chatter on top.

Brunch and slow morning: the Sunday lazy day stations

Once you are past the first coffee and ready for a bit more presence, the soul and indie selections come into play.

KEXP Sunday programming pulls from soul, alternative, folk and world music. It rewards keeping the station on through a full show because the DJ builds an arc.

BBC Radio 6 Music on a Sunday is famously good. The schedule is heavy with specialist shows, longer mixes, and curated music for exactly this slot.

For something less British and more global, Dublab out of Los Angeles often runs Sunday selections built around soul, downtempo and instrumental hip hop.

Afternoon: the long middle of the day

This is the heart of a slow Sunday. You want music that has presence without demanding focus.

Jazz24 is the strongest jazz default: mainstream and contemporary jazz, well-mixed, with the kind of pace that suits an afternoon that is not going anywhere in particular.

For something a little richer, Linn Jazz leans into modern jazz with audiophile recordings, the sort of thing that rewards a decent speaker.

If you want indie and alternative for the afternoon read, BBC Radio 6 Music and KEXP cover the territory between them. Both reward long listens.

Late afternoon and sunset: Balearic and dining radio

This is where Sunday tips into evening. The stations that own this slot all share a Mediterranean DNA.
