Radio, properly curated

World Radio Central exists because the open web is too scattered and the aggregators have no taste. TuneIn lists 100,000 stations. iHeartRadio pushes the loudest. Neither helps you find the one you actually want to listen to on a Wednesday afternoon in November.

We started WRC to do something different. Pick the stations that matter. Write about them with care. Organise them by mood and city and genre, so you can find what you want without scrolling through five hundred talk-radio aggregator pages first.

The editorial philosophy

Taste, not exhaustiveness. We would rather list 80 great stations than 8,000 indifferent ones. Every station on WRC has been listened to by a human, checked for a working stream, and given a written description we actually believe in.

The result is closer to a guide than a database. You can trust that pressing play on anything in our directory will deliver music a person with ears chose to put on the air.

How we choose stations

A few simple tests. The station has been on the air long enough to have a programming culture. The audio is reliable. The DJs or curators have a point of view. The records, taken together, feel like a place rather than a playlist.

We weight community and independent stations heavily. The big public broadcasters get in when they earn it. The label radios make the cut when the catalog is deep enough to sustain a 24-hour stream. The pirate-spirit stations get in almost automatically.

Who runs WRC

A small team of music obsessives based across Europe. Day jobs in design, writing, and music. WRC is the project we wanted to exist, so we built it.
