Classic FM brought classical music out of the academy and into British living rooms in 1992 and it's held that ground ever since. Programming favours the lush, the famous and the cinematic - Vaughan Williams, Einaudi, Morricone - which makes it ideal background for hosting rather than concentrated listening.
